Building off a legacy of neighborhood advocacy.
In September of 2015, residents and Summit-University Planning Council released a vision for Central Village Park following months of engagement and community conversation. That report helped to spur some action, and some of the community’s goals have been realized. But much work remains. Our work, years later, builds off the advocacy and vision set forth years ago.
Throughout 2021-2022, partners will be hosting listening sessions, programs, and workshops to hear neighbors’ concerns, dreams, and ideas. Already, we’ve identified a handful of themes.
Please share your ideas on how to make Central Village Park an even greater place. Help us build the vision!
-
1. Update park amenities
Lighting, trails, and other park amenities are aging and in need of replacement.
-
2. Address safety concerns
Real and perceived safety issues can make the park a less welcoming and safe space for people.
-
3. Celebrate Central Village Park
The park has a unique past, present, and future. The park and the neighborhood should be celebrated and its story should be told.
-
4. Foster a sense of neighborliness
Leverage the park as a space where neighbors can get to know each other and create new connections.
-
5. Provide programming
Use the space to offer a mix of recreation and cultural activities
-
6. Maintain the park
The park and trails require consistent care and maintenance. The city and neighbors can be collaborative partners in taking care of the park.
-
7. Access to nature
The impacts of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) will soon devastate Central Village Park’s tree canopy. Seek opportunities to replace trees lost to EAB and expand natural spaces such as flowers and gardens.
